Driven by the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is predicted to fall to -3.3% in 2020, pushing the region into its first recession in 25 years.

The Caribbean is blessed with great economic potential and growth opportunities. It is one of the world’s top tourist destinations, with its stunning scenery and vibrant cultures drawing visitors from across the globe. However, the region’s greatest threat is its vulnerability to climate change and exposure to natural disasters.

This operation will contribute to private sector growth opportunities, boost job creation, and benefit more than 200 small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Sub-Saharan Africa, home to more than 1 billion people, half of whom will be under 25 years old by 2050, is a diverse continent offering human and natural resources that have the potential to yield inclusive growth and wipe out poverty in the region, enabling Africans across the continent to live healthier and more prosperous lives. The Sahel Women’s Empowerment and Demographic Dividend Project (SWEDD), aims to empower women and adolescent girls in Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.
