Eating a balanced diet is vital for our health and well-being. Food provides our bodies with the energy, proteins, vitamins, and minerals to live, grow, and stay active. We need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients to live healthy and productive lives.

However, in many countries - rich and poor alike - foods that are rich in nutrients, like fish, nuts, fruits and vegetables, are often far too expensive for ordinary people, or they are unsafe, inconvenient, unattractive and simply not available.

Malnutrition is caused by the interaction of poor quality diets and poor health environments and is manifest in a number of different ways:

  • poor child growth (stunting, wasting and underweight);
  • micronutrient deficiencies (lack of vitamins and minerals);
  • overweight and obesity (excess weight or body fat);
  • non-communicable diseases (such as diabetes or heart diseases).
  • GAIN is driven by a vision of a world without malnutrition, in which all people have access to and consume nutritious and safe food.

    GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving the consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

  • Our core values define what is important to us and guide the way we conduct business. We are committed to promoting and maintaining best practices in our everyday operations and we expect the highest standards of conduct from all staff, whether based at the headquarters, in representative offices or in country offices.

    We strive to uphold these values at all times.

  • The Partnership Council acts as an advisory body to the GAIN Board and Strategic Management Team, providing guidance and recommendations on GAIN’s strategic and investment priorities. The Council is also a platform to support innovation and to mobilise new partnerships aimed at ending malnutrition.

    As part of this dual role, the Council provides a forum to review new partnership opportunities and identify successful interventions that originate from GAIN and its partners.

    The Partnership Council draws representatives from international organisations that are partners of GAIN. These include non-governmental organisations, academic institutions, donor country governments, national governments, businesses, financial institutions and private foundations, as well as existing and future GAIN’s partnership initiatives.
