Purpose of The Position:
World Vision (WV) recognizes gender inequality and social exclusion as key drivers of child vulnerability across all contexts, especially urban and fragile and an Our Promise strategic priority. The Director, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) is the most senior expert for the WV Partnership in these areas and will set the agenda and provide global strategic leadership for gender equality and social inclusion in World Vision, across the strategy, programming, policy and grant acquisition areas of our work. The Gender Equality elements of the role relate to enabling women and girls and men and boys enjoying equal access to human rights, socially valued goods, opportunities and resources. The Social Inclusion elements focus on transforming social relations and structures so that children who are disadvantaged on the basis of disability, race, colour, sex and gender, language, religion, national or social origin or other status have increased opportunities, power, rights, access to resources and agency. The role works directly on the “Addressing Extreme Child Vulnerability” Strategic Initiative of the Our Promise, Going Further, leading the GESI workstream of that strategic initiative and working in close collaboration with the Strategy Realization Team and other key stakeholder teams across WV in the following key areas:
• Ensuring the strategic integration of gender equality and social inclusion across all WV entities.
• Leading the Partnership’s work to mainstream gender equality and social inclusion and showcase impact across all aspects of WV ministry.
• Building and leading the technical learning networks on aspects of gender equality and social inclusion (including Design Monitoring and Evaluation). .

Key Responsibilities:
• Assure technical excellence and thought leadership in GESI by articulating a clear vision and strategy for the promotion of GESI as part of WV’s core mission commitment to promote the sustained wellbeing of the most vulnerable girls and boys, our faith identity, and the global Our Promise, Going Further strategy.
• Assure GESI integration into Global Centre (GC), Support Office (SO) and Field Office (FO) strategy refresh and strategy reviews.
• Assure the adoption and effective, accountable implementation of the GESI management Policy across all Partnership entities.
• Work with the Global Impact Leadership Team, P&C /HR) and Programme Quality teams to monitor WV’s progress in achieving the commitments and standards outlined in the GESI Management Policy.
• Support Partnership entities to implement Gender Self Assessments and action plans.
• Develop and lead a new GESI technical team in the GC (TBD once approved).
• Global thought Leadership on GESI and Technical Leadership of work to mainstream GESI across all aspects of WV ministry including Disaster Management, Advocacy, Transformational Development (TD), Faith and Development, Sector and Thematic areas:
• Lead the development and consistent application of a standardised approach to GESI across WV programming, and promote the use of streamlined, integrated guidance and essential GESI tools.
• Work with Senior Partnership leaders, Regional Office (RO), FO and SO stakeholders to promote innovation and impact and strengthen GESI across all WV’s programming, including integration of a GESI lens into project models, PQ review discussions, TP and AP assessments, designs, evaluations and redesigns.
• Invest in staff awareness and technical GESI capacity, including the development of a high performing network of RO, FO and SO champions committed to GESI and with the capacity to deliver technical support for the integration of GESI and gender-related project models.
• Technically back-stop grant acquisition for GESI and strengthen and track GAM acquisition rates for GESI themed stand-alone grants and mainstreaming GESI across grant funded programming.
• Work with the Child Protection team and the Global Campaign (It Takes A World) to address gender-based violence and Child marriage through the development of project models and approaches that reduce harmful practices and violence against girls and boys.
• Global leadership to the technical networks on gender equality and inclusion, fostering an effective learning community under the DME community of practice that is valued by its members and engaged through strategic communication tools:
• Lead GESI learning and thinking across the Partnership and convene the global Gender Equality Leadership Team and the Disability and Inclusion Leadership Teams, ensuring FO, RO and SO voices are represented in the development and implementation of Partnership and strategic plans.
• Build strategic partnerships with external research/academic/ practitioner networks on gender equality and inclusion.
• Assure learning and improvement on GESI and the tracking and documentation of GESI-transformative evidence of impact through the DME Community of Practice.
• Work with the Evidence & Learning team to develop GESI learning and research agendas and build evidence of impact for WV’s GESI work to be showcased on the Global Impact Portal.
• Represent World Vision externally in relevant high level academic and industry conferences and forums to raise our profile and contribute to the industry discourse on GESI:
• Develop external messaging on World Vision’s GESI work and position Partnership entities to enable the WV Partnership to become an globally-recognised thought and practice leader on GESI
• Lead the development of external policy positions and advocacy initiatives on gender equality & social inclusion and lead and co-ordinate WV external engagement on GESI, including contributions to industry discourse and learning on GESI
• Work closely with WV’s Advocacy & Justice for Children and other teams, to influence international policy makers around core advocacy objectives related to GESI (especially with regard to the SDGs)
• Represent WV GESI work in the media and with partners (e.g. Faith partners, Unicef, PLAN Intl., Save the Children etc.)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Advanced technical knowledge and professional experience directly related to GESI, with an understanding and experience of relevant policy making processes, influencers and institutions.
• Cutting-edge technical knowledge of gender and inclusion programming options and approaches to DIME, evidence of impact and data analysis.
• Significant, proven knowledge and understanding of the gender equality/inclusion/diversity capacity needs of INGO staff, and how to address them.
• A comprehensive understanding of GESI from a Christian and other faith perspectives.
• At least 10 years working in the sector in roles requiring expertise in gender equality and social inclusion.
• A proven track record of work within a complex international organization and preferably including front line field experience in both long term development and fragile contexts.
• Experience of influencing and developing organisational or institutional strategy and high level reporting.
• Extensive life/work experience in the global south and sensitivity to the faith, cultural, political and social dynamics in a range of contexts.
• PhD or Masters Degree in a directly gender-related discipline.
• Competence in planning and project management.
• Effective in written and verbal communication in English and proficient in one other language – Spanish, French (preferred).


Preferred:
• A track record of brokering multi-disciplinary partnerships, planning and collaboration with diverse stakeholders (including faith-based organisations) at multiple levels.
• Compelling influencer and advocate – able to inspire, build consensus and bring people together around a common agenda.
• Excellent conceptual, analytical and strategic skills.
• Proven communication and presentation skills including ability to communicate complex technical or policy issues simply and clearly.
• Strong team building and management skills in a virtual or matrixed relationships.
• Grant acquisition and management experience.

Work Environment/Travel:
The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30 % of the time.
