Background

Jerusalem Mbezi Beach Lutheran Secondary School is a Christian School under the Evangelical Lutheran Church Tanzania (ELCT), Eastern and Coastal Diocese, Mbezi Beach Parish. We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Head of School who will report to the School Board and be responsible to the Parish Council through the School Committee.

The Head of Secondary School will be responsible for preserving and achieving the vision and mission of Jerusalem Secondary School while ensuring academic excellence, spiritual growth, discipline, and holistic development of students from.

The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership, oversee daily school operations, guide teachers and staff, and ensure the school maintains high standards in academics, administration, discipline, and co-curricular activities.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field (Master’s Degree is an added advantage).
  • Registered Teacher with TSC.
  • Minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in education, including at least 5 years in a leadership position in a secondary school.
  • Strong understanding of the Tanzania Secondary Education curriculum.
  • Proven ability to improve academic performance and school discipline.
  • Experience in supervising teachers, curriculum implementation, and student management.
  • Ability to lead and mentor staff professionally and spiritually.
  • Strong administrative, financial, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working in a Christian school environment is an added advantage.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise teaching and learning activities for Form I – IV.
  • Ensure proper implementation of the NECTA curriculum.
  • Monitor students’ academic progress and examination performance.
  • Coordinate internal examinations and prepare students for national examinations.
  • Promote excellence in teaching methodologies and classroom management.
  • Oversee preparation of schemes of work, lesson plans, and academic reports.

School Administration

  • Oversee daily operations of the school.
  • Supervise teaching and non-teaching staff.
  • Ensure proper student discipline and welfare.
  • Prepare school reports and strategic development plans.
  • Manage school resources effectively and responsibly.
  • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education regulations and policies.

Staff Management

  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate teachers and staff.
  • Organize staff meetings, training, and professional development programs.
  • Promote teamwork and a positive working environment.
  • Participate in recruitment and orientation of staff.

Students Affairs

  • Promote students’ spiritual, moral, academic, and social development.
  • Ensure proper guidance and counseling services for students.
  • Handle disciplinary matters fairly and professionally.
  • Encourage participation in sports and co-curricular activities.

Parents and Community Relations

  • Maintain strong communication with parents and guardians.
  • Organize parent meetings and academic progress discussions.
  • Build positive relationships with the church, community, and stakeholders.
  • Represent the school in educational and community forums.

Health and Safety

  • Ensure a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
