JOB DETAILS:
The Herd Health Field Coordinator will principally focus on piloting of integrated herd health initiatives in smallholder dairy, building on Maziwa Zaidi activities to catalyze enhanced uptake of proven dairy technology packages in pilot sites in Kilimanjaro and Tanga regions. The technology packages include delivery of bundled vaccine and artificial insemination services through inclusive business models involving empowered women and youth agripreneurs. Usage of information communication technology (ICT) or digital tools including mobile smartphone applications for farmer profiling and e-extension is envisaged.

Key accountabilities
• Coordinate herd health field research activities in Tanzania under SAPLING Initiative
• Lead implementation of herd health monitoring, learning and evaluation including guestionnaire design and epidemiological data collection
• Lead preparation of herd health reports and communication products from field activities
• Establish and manage client and stakeholder relationships
• Contribute to publishing results of research
• Maintain project work plan
• Verify and analyse the accuracy of data and information used or generated by project partners; resolve any discrepancies or problems.
• Propose ideas to the project team for improving the implementation of the project based on experience on the ground
• Prepare records of project activities and ensure the timely processing and delivery of required reports

Academic requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in veterinary medicine and MSc in epidemiology, agribusiness, project management, economics or rural development
• Specific experience required
• A Tanzanian in mid-career with at least 6 years’ work experience; a minimum of 3 years of which should have been spent in the delivery of development projects working with an NGO or in the private sector
• Awareness and/or experience in use of digital ICT tools by animal health practitioners including Mobile apps
• Field experience in livestock (preferably dairy) RAD in Tanzania – especially in linking farmers to inputs and services
• Experience with supervising/coordinating collection, storage and analysis of data related to agricultural households and associated value chains. Strong data analytical skills and knowledge of statistical applications such as using ‘R’, STATA or SPSS.
• An understanding of innovation systems and entrepreneurship
• Proven experience with project planning, management and monitoring & evaluation.

• Excellent leadership skills
• Excellent written and spoken English and Swahili
• General information:The duration of contract for the position is two years. This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
