Position Description
The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit Senior Mining Engineer to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities
Safety
• Demonstrate visible safety leadership to the team and live the Barrick DNA.
• Complete safety interactions with mining operations crews at specified intervals and record.
• Identify hazards in workplaces and rectify and/or report to responsible supervisor.
• Report all incident/ accident that occur in the workplace.
• Complete all relevant risk assessments before completing or assigning a task.
• Compliance to all mine standard operating procedures in design, planning, and execution work.
Design and planning
• Lead a team of mining engineers to deliver integrated mine plans that ensure value creation.
• Complete on time, accurate & reliable designs & layouts to enable safe and efficient mining.
• Completing digging, haulage, and shovel matching analysis for all mining activities as part of design.
• Design and planning of pit infrastructure such as dewatering, electrical feed and surface run-off.
• Life of mine planning, scheduling, cost modelling and compilation of mine reserves.
• Open pit design, dump design, cut-off grade analysis and optimization.
Drill and Blast
• Drill & Blast design, analysis, and quality control, including blast notifications, and post blast reports.
• Identify & Apply Industry best practice principles throughout the drilling and blasting process.
• Bench reconciliation, tracking and remediation planning.
• Ensure adequate drilling and blasting stock is generated through design for weekly achievement.
Cost management
• Cut off grade analysis and life of mine cost modelling.
• Creating and managing operating budget for the open pit operations.
• Create capital budgets for open pit operations including AFEs and purchase requisitions.
• Monthly cost analysis, reconciliation, and reporting.
Leadership
• Supervise and manage a team of junior engineers in day-to-day activities.
• Training and development of graduate engineers to attain relevant skills in open pit mining.
• Supporting mining operations leaders through technical input and operational oversight.
• Engage and influence others in stakeholder departments to achieve overall team goals.
• Ensure continuous professional development for self and others in the team.

Qualification requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in mining/mineral engineering.
• Practical experience and/or qualification in project management
• Mines Health & Safety Act Awareness.

Experience and competencies needed.
• Minimum of 3 – 5 years in Open Cast Mining environment
• At least 3–5-year experience as production drill and blast engineer
• Experience in the Gold Mining Industry
• Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
• Strong Safety Background and ability to drive a Safe working environment and practices.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Computer skills –MS Excel, Access, Word, Outlook.
• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
• Demonstrated ability to safely operate above normal scopes of working ethics.
• Must have a valid driving license.
• High professional conduct at all times and the ability to deal with a diverse client base.
